Community Partnerships

We partner with schools and community organizations to translate research into practice, creating opportunities for movement, health promotion, education, and hands-on student learning.

Recess Movement Mentor Sites

The Movement Mentor Program is an experiential learning initiative from the UMass Moove and Snooze Lab that brings together UMass students and local elementary schools to promote active, inclusive, and engaging recess experiences. UMass students participate as Movement Mentors, receiving training, coaching, and hands-on experience supporting children through recess-based activities and games. Guided by principles from the Playworks model, Movement Mentors aim to foster inclusive play, encourage physical activity, support positive peer interactions, and create welcoming opportunities for all students to be involved. ARPS Morning Movement & Mentoring Program

The Morning Movement & Mentoring Program (MMMP) is a community partnership led by the Town of Amherst Recreation Department, Amherst Police Department, and Amherst Regional Public Schools that brings together local organizations, educators, college students, and community volunteers to support student well-being through physical activity, mentorship, and positive social connection before the school day begins. As one of several community partners, the UMass Moove & Snooze Lab provides student Movement Mentors who volunteer alongside local educators, coaches, and community members to support program activities and promote healthy, active lifestyles.
